MUDL Registers Over 750,000 Urban Informal Houses in Eight Cities

The Ministry of Urban Development and Land – MUDL through the Programme for Registration of Urban Informal Settlement (PRUIS) has surveyed and registered 753,233 urban informal houses in the cities of Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat, Jalalabad, Kandahar, Farah, Bamyan, and Nilli.

Out of the total figure; the ministry has surveyed and registered 474,972 urban informal and unplanned houses in the capital city, Kabul, in the meantime, 81,442 houses in Mazar-e-Sharif, 72,743 houses in Herat, 51,818 houses in Kandahar, 24,384 houses in Jalalabad, 12,392 houses in Bamyan, 12,014 houses in Farah and 7,138 houses in Nilli cities respectively.

Moreover, the ministry recently broaden its PRUIS activities to district level, resulting 6,721 urban informal houses have been surveyed and registered in Injil district of Herat province, 4,670 houses in Spin Buldak of Kandahar, 3,772 houses in Mir Bacha Kot of Kabul, 2,617 houses in Balkh district of Balkh province.

Besides, the Programme for Registration of Urban Informal Settlement (PRUIS) has been formed for the purpose of survey and registration of urban informal houses, distribution of occupancy certificates, and elimination of discrimination between formal and informal areas, equal urban services as well by implementation the programme to convert the informal and unplanned areas into the best leisure areas.

Along with survey and registration of urban informal areas, distribution of occupancy certificates has begun to the residents of the houses and so far 20,000 occupancy certificates have been distributed to the houses registered in the cities of Kabul, Herat, Jalalabad, Bamyan and Nilli.

Also, by end of 2020, the Ministry of Urban Development and Land – MUDL is intended to distribute 50,000 occupancy certificates in the eight cities through which 3,000,000 residents will utilize the programme.
